Copyright & Takedown Policy

How to report content you believe infringes your rights, and how ChapterWhen reviews such reports. Draft pending qualified legal review.

1. Our approach

ChapterWhen respects intellectual-property rights and expects authors to submit only works they own or have permission to publish (see Terms of Service §4). We review copyright complaints individually and act on content that infringes the rights of others.

This page does not claim that ChapterWhen has a registered copyright agent, nor that any particular national legal regime applies. Those determinations [REQUIRE QUALIFIED COUNSEL BEFORE PUBLIC ONBOARDING].

2. How to report infringing content

Reports can be submitted in two ways:

  • In-product report: use the report control on the novel, chapter, or comment and select the copyright reason. This creates a tracked moderation report for administrator review.
  • Direct contact: write to the support channel on Contact & Support with the subject indicating a copyright complaint.

To help us act quickly, please include:

  • Your name and contact information.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work (your original work, where it was first published if applicable).
  • The exact location of the allegedly infringing material on ChapterWhen (novel/chapter titles and links).
  • A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is unauthorized, and that the information in your notice is accurate.
  • Your physical or electronic signature (for emailed complaints).

3. How reports are reviewed

  • Administrators review the reported material against the original work and the surrounding context.
  • While under review, or when infringement is clear, the material may be hidden from public surfaces pending a final decision.
  • Every moderation action is recorded with the acting administrator, target, and reason for accountability.
  • Outcomes include: no action (report closed), content hidden or removed, publishing restrictions, or account measures for repeat or severe cases. Both reporter and affected author are informed of the outcome where contact details allow. [NOTIFICATION WORKFLOW TO BE CONFIRMED BY THE OWNER.]

4. If your content was reported

If material you submitted is hidden or removed following a copyright complaint, you may respond through Contact & Support explaining why you believe the action was mistaken — for example, that the work is original, licensed, in the public domain, or a lawful use. Include any evidence (publication history, licenses, permissions) that supports your position. Administrators will re-review and either restore the material or uphold the restriction.

5. Repeat infringement and counter-notices

Accounts responsible for repeated infringement face escalating measures, up to permanent removal. A formal counter-notice procedure, including restoration timelines and jurisdictional handling, [REQUIRES COUNSEL REVIEW — DO NOT RELY ON §4 ALONE AS A STATUTORY PROCESS].

6. Misuse of reporting

Knowingly false reports, or reports filed to harass authors or suppress lawful content, violate the Community Guidelines and may lead to loss of reporting privileges or account measures.
